Unmoderated Usability Research

Project Goals

This usability research project was conducted to understand what is working and what could be improved upon as users order items on editablearrangements.com.

The Process

  • Five users were recruited to perform remote unmonitored usability test through the use of validately.com.
  • Each user was asked to complete 3 tasks on their device using the browser of their choice.
  • When the user completed each task, they marked it complete and then performed the next.
  • •Upon completing, users were asked to describe what they liked and disliked about their interaction with the website.
  • The recordings were then analyzed and usability concerns noted.
  • Observation notes were then grouped by area and analyzed for patterns.

Results

The results of the study show that small adjustments to the website for adding and editing items would improve the usability of the website.

  • Consider removing information on delivery pricing until items are in the shopping cart.
  • Insure all items in the cart can be removed.
  • Add top level navigation or use of other graphics to greatly increase awareness of fundraising opportunities for the company.

Once changes are complete, additional usability testing could be conducted to establish baseline time on task measurements based on users knowledge and experience of ordering items online.

Lessons Learned

I found the assignment at first a little difficult. I followed the suggestion in the video and really did not do anything great for post task or post test questions. If I were to do it again I would have done a few around the tasks and more post test questions to get demographic and experience info of the users taking the tests.
