The owners of the website found it to be quite dated from a look and technology perspective. They also reported that users had also found it daunting to use and to find the information that they were looking for.
This multiphase research project was carried out to help determine what changes were necessary to the website to help welcome users and insure ease of access to information.
This multiphase research project was carried out to help determine what changes were necessary to the website to help welcome users and insure ease of access to information. During Phase 1, we gained insight into who the users are of the Billings Public Library website and what information they are looking for. This included developing 2 primary and 1 secondary user personas.
Phase 2 took what was discovered about the users in Phase 1 and identified the content that was needed to support their desired activities. The evaluation answered:
• What content was present on the current site and could be repurposed?
• What content needed to be reworked?
• What content was not present and needed to be created?
That information was then used to create and design changes to the existing site.
The redesign and new structures were tested by users and refactored where needed in
Phase 3. Upon completion of usability testing of the new wire frames the final Phase 4
was the completed website design recommendations and documentation.
